Simple telephone intercom system a.k.a Stage Telephone Ringer. Dubbed “Exchange in a Box” . Amazingly easy to setup and use. Answers questions like how to ring an old telephone on stage etc.
Behaves intuitively, exactly like making calls to and from a normal UK land line telephone, so no training or skills required and no embarrassing moments, like the telephone continuing to ring when it has been picked up.
Much better than any simple electronic “telephone ring generators”.
Designed for when you need to use ANY land line telephone in: Escape rooms, Films/TV, Museums Theatre productions, Vintage telephone collections, interactive art exhibitions etc. Not only does it dial and ring the phones correctly (with the correct UK tones) but you can also talk normally between the two telephones.
Please note that unlike all other systems our phone ring simulator system will work with both modern push button tone phones and vintage/antique mechanical rotary dial telephones.
Telephone Intercom Module for landline telephones (Stage Telephone Ringer)
This “Plug and Play” solution is designed to make telephone calls between two standard UK hard-wired telephones. Ideal for use as an internal house intercom system or as a method of making telephone calls for Stage and Screen use.

Most people find it is much better to have a real landline phone actually ring on stage as the sound of the telephone ringing is more localised to the source.
All parts are provided (except the standard landline telephones) and no electrical or computer skills are required, it is literally plug and play.
Although this solution was initially developed as a telephone intercom system for “Vintage Telephone Enthusiasts” it is also used extensively for stage/play/theatre/”escape room” use, competing very favourably (both in function and price) with “Tele-Q” and various older telephone ring generator solutions.
It operates from a UK mains powered DC supply (provided) and will ring both new and old vintage telephones (will ring a REN of 3).
The telephones (not provided) just plug into standard “BT style” telephone sockets (provided).
The system includes two telephone wires (one 17 meters and one 3 meters in length). However standard telephone extension cables can also be used to extend the range by up to 100 meters (provided the telephone extension cable is of good quality) if required.
Please note that this is not a wireless solution, rather it uses more reliable standard telephone wires. Also please note that the solution is “plug and play” and as such has no user configurable options. For example, the ring cadence (UK vs US) can not be changed by the user and has to be pre-set in our workshop.
Before you buy we strongly advise you to watch the “Installation Video” below. This is particularly important if you wish to use the “dialling” on stage and intend to dial out from an old vintage telephone.
To create this solution we have used several pieces of “off the shelf hardware” (purchased in bulk) that we have assembled, configured (using several years of knowledge and experimentation) and tested so that it is a true plug and play solution.
Please note that because this solution is specifically designed for UK land-line telephones (the UK have a 3 wire, rather than a 2 wire internal wiring telephone system) therefore this solution will not work without adaptation in the US.
Hence this “Exchange in a Box” is currently only available for sale in the UK.

Why we developed plug & play “Exchange in a Box”
Ever since the 1970’s I have been looking for a simple intercom solution that would work with standard land line telephones, one that did not require complicated setup or maintenance. Basically a system that you just plugged in and switched on. I could never find one, so a few years ago I designed and built my own.
This simple system I have now named “Exchange in a Box” Unlike other solutions out there it has all the UK tones and the distinctive British telephone ring. The really good news is that this unique solution is now available at a very reasonable cost.
Initially I designed this system to show off my “vintage telephone” collection but soon realised it would be ideal as a stage prop in plays and on TV. For example it was used on UK TV in a television series called “Find it Fix it Flog it”. More recently it has been used in escape rooms and in museums!
We are now selling a (plug and play) unit that will allow you to create an intercom system using standard British land line phones (this could easily include one or more of our vintage telephones). These units have multiple uses including Theatre and Stage telephone ringers (for ringing vintage phones onstage) and in house wired telephone intercoms using either modern or vintage land line dial telephones or a combination of both.
